The Overcomers: A Fellowship Born of Divine Hunger

“And he said unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” – Lk.10:2

Our Genesis: Called Apart for His Glory

More than three decades ago, when the spiritual landscape of Nigeria was witnessing an unprecedented awakening, and the words of our Lord Jesus rang true—”The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few” (Matthew 9:37)—God was stirring hearts with a deeper call. This was the dawn of what would become the modern Pentecostal movement in Nigeria, a time when young zealots were willing to sacrifice everything for the advancement of Christ’s kingdom.

Yet in the midst of this spiritual renaissance, the Holy Spirit was preparing a remnant—men and women who would not bow to the pressures of religious conformity or compromise the purity of the Gospel. Like Daniel and his three friends who “purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat” (Daniel 1:8), these faithful ones discerned from afar the subtle corruptions that would later challenge both church and nation.

The Divine Separation: A Fellowship of the Faithful

“Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” – 2 Corinthians 6:17

As spiritual discernment revealed the errors creeping into the popular interpretations of ministry and calling, these devoted believers began gathering in intimate circles. Not out of rebellion, but out of reverence—seeking to preserve the authentic Gospel message that was being diluted by human ambition and misunderstood “calls to ministry.”

These smaller gatherings became sanctuaries where the Word of God could be shared in its purest form, where fellowship transcended religious politics, and where Christ remained the center of all things. Thus, The Overcomers was born—not as another denominational structure, but as a divine response to the hunger for genuine kingdom living.

Our Identity: Non-Denominational by Design

“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling.” – Eph.4:4

The Overcomers emerged as a non-denominational gathering, united not by human organization but by our shared passion for the Kingdom of God as revealed through Jesus Christ and His Word. We recognized that the Spirit of God cannot be contained within the walls of institutional Christianity, and that true fellowship flows from heart to heart, spirit to spirit.

Our foundation rests not on human tradition but on the eternal truth that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Heb.13:8). In a world of changing doctrines and shifting spiritual trends, we anchor ourselves to the unchanging Christ and His infallible Word.

Our Philosophy: Freedom in Fellowship

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” – 2 Cor.3:17

The Overcomers operates on a principle of spiritual freedom—”free entry, free exit”—because we understand that genuine faith cannot be coerced or contained. Like the disciples who followed Jesus by choice and sometimes struggled with His hard sayings, we invite all to come and taste of the Lord’s goodness, but we never hold anyone against their will.

However, our prayer echoes the words of Jesus to His disciples: “Will ye also go away?” (Jn.6:67). Our heart’s desire is that none would leave our fellowship without first encountering the transforming power of the Christ we proclaim. For it is not our eloquence or programs that change lives, but the living Word of God that is “quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword” (Heb.4:12).

Our Mission: Preserving the Pure Gospel

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” – Gal.1:8

Like the faithful remnant in every generation—from Elijah’s 7,000 who had not bowed to Baal, to the Philadelphian church that kept God’s word and did not deny His name—The Overcomers exists to preserve and proclaim the uncompromised Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We stand as watchmen on the walls, discerning the times and seasons, calling believers back to the simplicity and purity of the Gospel. Our fellowship serves as a refuge for those who hunger for more than religious performance—those who desire authentic relationship with the living God.

Our Foundation: Christ and His Word

“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” – 1 Cor.3:11

Jesus Christ is our Alpha and Omega, our beginning and our end. The Word of God is our compass, our counselor, and our constant companion. In an age of spiritual confusion and doctrinal compromise, we hold fast to the apostolic declaration: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Tim.3:16).

We are not swayed by every wind of doctrine, but like the noble Bereans, we “search the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11). Our gatherings are characterized by the systematic study of God’s Word, fervent prayer, and genuine fellowship that builds up the body of Christ.

Our Vision: Overcomers in Every Season

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” – Jn.16:33

The name “Overcomers” reflects our identity in Christ. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Rom.8:37). In a world increasingly hostile to biblical truth, we stand as overcomers—not by our own strength, but by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Rev.12:11).

Our vision extends beyond our local fellowship to see a generation of believers who walk in victory, who are not overcome by the world’s system, but who overcome through faith, love, and the power of God’s Spirit.

Our Invitation: Come and See

“Come and see,” said Philip to Nathanael (Jn.1:46).

This is our invitation to you—not to join another religious organization, but to experience the reality of Christ in genuine Christian fellowship. Come with your questions, your hunger, your brokenness, and your dreams. Come and encounter the One who makes all things new.

The Overcomers is not perfect—we are a fellowship of redeemed sinners pressing toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phi.3:14). But we are committed to the journey together, supporting one another as we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” – Heb.10:24-25
